Abstract

The garbage in the city of Yogyakarta becomes a serious problem, where the waste disposal site (TPS) in the DIY province only relies on the Piyungan Final Disposal Site (TPA). TPS accommodates an average of 500 tons of waste produced per day which is increasingly mounting and has an impact on water quality and the environment around the TPST. Water pollution is the biggest threat that occurs during the rainy season and mixed with garbage flows into the community's environment which will lead to rivers. This worsens the condition where Piyungan is one of the clean water crisis areas in the city of Yogyakarta. However, during the rainy season the area experiences flooding from the Kali Gawe which stretches across the area. Seeing the problems above, the solution we offer is the use of plastic waste based on local community empowerment as raw material for making eco paving blocks which are water catchment areas with grass planting media so that in addition to reducing plastic waste, it can increase the groundwater cycle. Coupled with the application of Rainwater Storage technology which can accommodate excess water that is wasted during the rainy season. The combination of the two into environmentally friendly paving is useful as a catchment area that stores groundwater availability. This innovation has the potential to create beauty and environmental sustainability in the future. It is hoped that the application of this idea can answer the problem of piles of plastic waste and the need for clean water.
